It has yellow flowers on long bare stems that rise above leafy branches. The plant produces two sets of leaves and flowers each year - after the summer rains and again after winter rain. The eaves are covered with a thick mat of short hairs giving a gray-green appearance. Many desert plants have this kind of surface, as the hairs form a loose blanket over the leaves and act an insulating layer against the heat and cold.
